With experience that spans newspapers, magazines, online media, marketing and public relations, and employee communications, I am a versatile, talented, and seasoned communicator.
I started as a newspaper journalist, writing and reporting for daily newspapers in Kansas, Missouri, Texas, and Colorado. I covered hard news, interviewed entertainers, wrote features, and had my own lifestyle column.
I ventured into electronic media in 1997 when I was named a New Media Fellow by the Newspaper Association of America. During the one-year fellowship, I also started up the Web site for the Daily Sentinel newspaper in Grand Junction, CO. I went on to produce content for an online guide to the city of Phoenix, for LasVegas.com, and for the Las Vegas Review-Journal newspaper's Web site. At LasVegas.com, I also edited the site's popular e-newsletter.
In 2004, I joined the office of marketing and public relations at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where I specialized in employee communications and served as assistant editor of UNLV Magazine. I also wrote and edited marketing copy for official university publications.
As a freelance writer, I have developed a niche writing for university and alumni publications. My client list also includes a Wichita-based women's magazine and publications for nonprofits. I also expanded into travel writing and books as the majority writer of 2004's Moon Metro Las Vegas, an urban travel guide. And I developed an online guide to jobs in the hot Las Vegas hotel-casino market for ReviewJournal.com.
