Putting the Focus on men for June

Every June at Women’s Focus, we train our eyes on the guys. It’s Father’s Day, it’s grilling and lake time — summer’s here and we celebrate all the ways guys can strut their stuff. This year, my articles for the men’s issue include a look into the jobs of three different working dogs, and a piece on big boys and their big toys (vintage fire truck, anyone?). Denise spoke at a fundraiser for the Wichita Women’s Initiative Network, a remarkable organization that has done a lot of good despite flying pretty low under the public radar. Hopefully Denise’s appearance helped change that. WIN provides a secure workplace, access to education and job training, and therapy for women who have left abusive relationships. The two clients I interviewed had made giant steps forward since leaving their abusers and getting … Read entire article »
